In December 2014 Geek Native held a competition to give away a number of copies of To Go Viking from Safecracker Pictures. To Go Viking is a documentary that follows a group of Viking reenactors as they travelled the world and battled.
To enter the competition readers had to answer a poll. They had to say whether they went to the gym often and whether they had a favourite weapon.
If you’re a LARPer you might know what “favourite weapon” means. Maybe you just prefer fighting with a latex sword over a latex staff. If you’re a Destiny player on the PlayStation 4 perhaps you’re happiest when you’ve a high powered Sniper Rifle as your special weapon and a Rocket Launcher as your heavy weapon. Many other computer games let you pick weapon types too. Then, of course, there are tabletop gamers who may well have favourite races and character classes as well as a favourite weapon and armour set up for their characters.
As it turns out about 1 in 3 of Geek Native’s readers do have a favourite weapon.
This isn’t a scientific survey as the sample size isn’t huge and people might just have been clicking randomly just to enter the competition. That said, we like to pull all sorts of quirky stats from our competition polls as we’ve had some pretty interesting results.
In this case it turns out there is no correlation between people who manage to get themselves into a workout routine and people who have a weapon routine. In other words; gamers or Geek Native readers who go to the gym often are just as likely (nearly) to have a favourite weapon as those who don’t.
What about you? Do you have a favourite weapon for when you’re gaming, being a Viking or taking part in a LARP? Let us know in the comments below.
