Battleborn is the big new title from Gearbox Software and 2K. This is the partnership that brought us Borderlands.
The game is set in the far future where all but one of the stars have gone dark. A mysterious force is at fault and now only one star remains – Solus. The universe’s surviving population find themselves fighting themselves for resources and their heroes, the Battleborn, fight for dominance. Only the threat of the mysterious, star killing, enemy could force them together.
The game has 25 different characters (with lots of cosplay potential, of course) a story mode in which you play alone or cooperatively with up to five friends. There’s a competitive multiplayer mode too with 5v5 player games over three different modes.
Battleborn uses a “Persistent Progression System” which means any experience points earned in any game mode – whether that’s Story Mode or Competitive, contribute to both Character Rank as well as a Command Rank.
The Character Rank lets players augment their skill tree and unlock skins whereas the Command Rank affects the player’s own profile with extra badges or providing items that benefit characters that come under her control.
The game is due out this winter for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. There’s a Battleborn website to monitor for any breaking information.
