Would Jaws be the same without the music? Star Wars without the sound effects? Of course. It’s almost impossible to imagine some favourite movies without their soundtracks and musical effects.
There are, no doubt, some YouTube clipshows that do their best to compile the best of these iconic movie sound movements but they run the risk of being copyright blocked (or YouTube yanked, as I call it) and can’t be left lying around on your gaming table to distract friends when they come to visit. You don’t get to own or collect a YouTube montage. You can, if you’re lucky, own a copy of Ear Book’s Movies: Sounds! Camera! Action!.
This mighty hardback comes with 8 CDs. That’s right – this isn’t just a write up about the famous earworms and movie music memories – Movies: Sound! Camera! Action! Has 4 CDs at the front of the book and 4 at the back so you can listen to these silver screen moments whenever you want.
Layer that impressive collection of sound with some 400 photographs from classics and 216 pages and the result is a highly desirable tome.
Movies: Sound! Camera! Action! oozes production value and has a surprising amount of insight on the featured music themes and movies.
It’s hard to put the book into words. That’s rather the whole point of the book in the first place; there are some things you need to hear to recapture perfectly. What is easy to say is how well Movies does and what a perfect gift it would be for any cinema buff.
The video below was made using Google Photos. It uses my bad photography of the book, a special effects filter and an algorithm to put together. It’s shared here to give you a look between the pages.
