There have been loads of reports, attempts, whispers and moves on the Akira live action front over the year.
Will we ever see it?
We now know that Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus; some of the talent behind Iron Man and Children of Men, are writing/have written a new script.
Vulture, New York’s Magazine is suggesting that Albert and Allen Hughes – the Hughes Brothers – will be directing the film. They’re still flush with the success of The Book of Eli. I’m still fond of their treatment of From Hell.
It’s also expected that Andrew Lazar, currently busy with Jonah Hex, will be the producer.
Those are some big names.
If we see one Akira film then we’re likely to see two. Most believe that Warners will split the books across two movies and be willing to splash the cash on each.
