Men and women are polar opposites when it comes to the thorny theoretical question of “Would you welcome immortality?”
At first glance the idea of not having to worry about death is attractive but the consequences soon become clear. Set aside concerns about becoming decrepit with age or simply ill and you’re still left with years, perhaps hundreds of years, when you would be lonely.
In April Geek Native had a copy The Art and Making of Penny Dreadful, the TV show, to give away in a competition and asked entrants about immortality. While this approach doesn’t make a scientific survey; it does give us some numbers for fun analysis.
Men are likely to accept immortality; 75% saying they’d take it even if it meant being lonely. Women are unlikely with about the same amount saying they would reject it. Does this mean women are more social than men or just more considered?
What would you do? Would you accept immortality even if that meant 100s of years being lonely?
