Geek Native gave away a copy of From Bedrooms to Billions. This great documentary looked at the rise of computer game design and the industry in the UK.
The competition was used to ask two questions;
- Do you consider yourself to be a hardcore gamer?
- Do you think new computer games are better than old ones?
Definitions of what “hardcore” meant or when the cut-off point between old and new happened were not provided. That was all left to the geek answering the poll to decide for themselves. While this approach isn’t very scientific it does provide some fun analysis and interesting results. I had thought “hardcore” gamers were more likely to be nostalgic about classic games but that wasn’t the case. In fact, more than half (58%) of hardcore gamers responding in the survey said that new games are better than old ones.
Gamers who didn’t consider themselves as hardcore were more nostalgic about the quality of old computer games. An even greater percentage (62%) said that old games were better than what’s being produced today.
What do you think?
Do you think new games like Halo 5, Call of Duty or Fallout 4 are better than classics like Pac-Man, Streets of Rage or the original Elite?
