Will we suffer an end of the world? An apocalypse? If it happens what do you think the cause will be? The Midgard Serpent? A zombie outbreak? The rise of the robots?
In May, Geek Native had a copy of Jon Wallace’s excellent and post-apocalyptic Barricade to give away. In the competition we asked two questions; a) do you work with computers and b) which do you think would cause the end of the world – humans or machines?
Competitions don’t make for scientific surveys but they are fun to analyse. With roughly equal respondents for “I work with computers” and “I don’t work with computers” we saw a big difference in whether machines would be blamed for the end of the world.
Less than 15% of people who don’t work with computers thought machines would likely cause the end of the world. Those who deal with computers at work had a different opinion; 45% of them thought machines would be to blame.
Overall? Both groups were pretty certain that humans would be at fault.
Do you agree with the findings of the give away poll? Will it man or machine that causes the end of the world?
