Black Book Editions is the publisher that handles the French editions of Pathfinder. They’ve taken their underwater RPG Polaris to Kickstarter and it’s doing well. At the time of writing, there’s still 13-day still on the clock and they’re approaching 300% funding. You can follow the progress here.
Underwater kingdoms bled dry.
Mankind returned to the sea after ruining the Earth’s surface and no longer being able to live there. Life hasn’t gone well and once again humanity’s conflicts have brought nothing but ruin and death.
The game uses its own d20-based rule system, where you have to roll under a target number while getting as close as possible. The game promises a hard and dark setting, localisation of wounds, naval combat and a chargen that awards extra points if you start out older.
A €27 backing will get you both core rulebooks as a PDF. You need to step up to €79 to get the hardbacks. The ‘complete’ package which includes the rulebooks, a GM screen, character files and the stretch goals is available at €127. At the minute most backers are saving the €50 difference and settling for the hardback rules and stretch goals.
Yeah. There are two core rules. That’s some 500 pages all together; perhaps a bit big for a single book. The first contains the setting, character gen and game system. The second contains technology, equipment, monsters and advanced rules.
If you’re familiar with the French edition, which is already out, there are some changes. There are some minor rule tweaks but in general, you’ll find the advanced rules have been collected all together in the second rule book rather than scattered throughout.
