Imagine writing and illustrating your own comic book – for it then to be picked up professionally, for it to be a hit and then for Awesome Media for a TV role? That’s exactly what happened to Jay Gunn as the company has optioned Surface Tension.
I rather enjoyed Surface Tension. Okay, billions died and it struggled a little towards the end with a plateau of reveals but it’s a strong story with great characters.
Awesome Media are all about the characters. Jeff Norton, the novelist and co-founder of Awesome, told press;
While fans liken Surface Tension to ‘The Walking Dead’, we are focusing on the human drama of Jay Gunn’s compelling characters; think ‘Humans’ meets ‘Lost’. This is an intelligent graphic novel with something important to say, and it will make ground-breaking television.”
Awesome list three “Prime Time” projects on their site; Cortex, a high-tech police show, Surface Tension and the supernatural thriller Woodland.
Normally optioning a title doesn’t mean a movie or show is coming but Awesome are just ramping up and seem pretty keen.
