Games Workshop have announced the North American Golden Demon painting competition for Baltimore, MD, this year. The day long event will be held at the Baltimore Convention Center on August 21st.
John Shaffer, who has been judging the event for 8 years, thinks Golden Demon is different from other competitions. Talking to trade press, he says that Golden Demon;
“[Golden Demon] allows entrants to express their creativity through their color choices and modifications to the figures, which in turn inspires the public to create their own masterpieces,”
He also discusses the challenges the Golden Demon presents;
[[The challenge is] being able to take a mass produced figure and modify or paint it in such as way as to make it wholly unique.
The Golden Demon competition is 23 years old – having started in the UK in 1987 before reaching the States in 1991. It’s now held in countries from France to Poland.
Tickets and information are available from Games Workshop’s Games Day 2010 website if you can defeat their geo-location splash page.
Previous Golden Demon winners include Celeborn by Natalya Melnik, Master by Natalya Melnik and Trogdor Necknappa by Todd Swanson. I’ve got some photos. They may be connected.
