London’s own manga publisher mayamada is back on Kickstarter and with a new project. Hot Lunch is a manga graphic novel for all ages and is about a tiger in a suit (a nice suit) on a heist. The company is asking for £5,000 in all or nothing campaign which you can follow online.

Unlike some manga, this story is suited for younger readers or the young at heart, and mayamada continue to have an interest in helping support young people. They argue that comics encourage kids to read and therefore they’re a good thing. In fact, the launch press release for the project cites this 10-year-old information from the University of Illinois and professor Carol Tilley which suggest comics are good for children’s learning.
So, what do you get? A pledge of £5 gets you access to the digital copy of the manga and your name in the credits. £10 will get you that, extra artwork and previous titles like Serious and Samurai Chef. Mayamada seems to like mixing food with furries. You need to step up to £15 to get a printed copy but that also brings digital art as a bonus.
Wisely, the publisher lets people go much higher. If you fancy seeing yourself making a cameo then that’ll cost £100 but be quick as that limited tier is running out. You can even have your cameo character turned into a laser engraved wood print which is a clever idea.
A big part of this project is the artist Pinali. She’s worked on every mayamade project to date. If you love her style then Hot Lunch will be a sure thing for you.
