The timing is spot on as publisher Green Ronin are only a few days into their The Expanse Roleplaying Game Kickstarter, and it is going great guns. It funded in just one hour, smashing the US$30, 000 goal.
At the time of writing, there are nearly 2,500 backers who have pledged almost US$180,000 in support.
The 44-page quickstart offers up condensed rules, six pre-generated characters and an adventure called Cupbearer. It’s suitable for 3 to 6 characters and uses the AGE system.
The Expanse was a roleplaying campaign before it was a series of novels. Good, huh? Reduces the chance of the creators not getting what roleplaying is.
Pledge US$20 for the standard edition of The Expanse RPG in PDF, US$30 for the same PDF plus the GM’s Kit. Want a physical version of the game? You need to step up to $US50 and pay for shipping separately.
The tiers go higher still. In fact, over 800 fans have jumped in at the ‘Battleship’ level, promising US$100 for the Special Edition and Game Master’s Kit in both print and PDF.
The Expanse RPG Kickstarter stretch goals
As you might expect the stretch goals are unlocking given how the money is flooding in. We already have a core rulebook blessed with an adventure, pre-gens in with the GM’s Kit, extra information about The Belt, an adventure in with the GM’s Kit, a solar system poster map, extra information about Mars, a special edition dust jacket, more content on Earth and a forward by James S. A. Corey.
There are six more campaign adventures to come if the campaign manages to raise US$280,000 before it closes. Given that the pledge total is more than halfway there with just a few days gone I think it is possible that Green Ronin may be considering adding more.
