The new White Wolf is serious about establishing Vampire: the Masquerade as the dominant vampire game. Just as we’re recovering from a suprise official makeup range, the publisher has announced a partnership with Nice Game Publishing in Germany.
Nice Game Publishing will be making Vampire: the Masquerade – Heritage.
Heritage is designed to be played in a series of games. As you come back to play the game again the vampires you created in a previously will still be there, able to change, and you and your growing bloodline will cover nearly 700 years of history.
As a player, you have to navigate all the events the ‘real-world’ throws at your while keeping hidden from the Inquisition. I dare say there be no shortage of meddling from rival vampire players too.
A critical aspect is the ability to turn certain mortal assets into vampires. If you do this, the new vampire will awaken with special powers, but you won’t know what they are in advance. In fact, the ‘NPC’ mortal characters are pre-sleeved, so it’s only when you decide to embrace them, remove the sleeve and turn the card over do you find out whether they’ll be a great vampire or a liability.
It’s a legacy style game, with each play you record your achievements in a timeline, adding vampires to the pool. There will be missions that will unlock new sources, characters and challenges to mark the changing eras.
