It may feel early to be talking about advent calendars and Christmas but if you want to get one of these limited editions you need to know about them now. Every year Geek Native seems the most collectable or geeky advent calendars sell out. Zavvi’s new range is going to go especially quickly with only 5,000 units available worldwide.
Zavvi seems to be expecting a rush for when the coins go on sale today at noon as there’s a system in place for you to register to get an SMS alert when you can place an order.
Each calendar features 24 highly detailed exclusive collectable coins, covering all of your favourite characters from either the Marvel Universe or the Star Wars Galaxies. Each coin comes in its hard-cover protective casing to prevent any damage or fingerprints to the coin, with the final coin in the set being a high-shine silver variant to complete the collection on Christmas Eve. Once all 24 coins have been taken out, the middle sleeve of the calendar can be pulled out to create a handy little fold-away display stand.
We’ve seen the resale value on some of Zavvi’s collectable coins go through the roof on eBay with some of their Jurassic Park gold variants going for over £100. These coin advent calendars retail for about £60 (for 24 coins) so that would be a tidy profit but its far from guaranteed.
