Manga Entertainment will bring MFKZ to the UK and Ireland for a cinematic release.
The animation, already popular in France, was first released as Mutafukaz and is a collaboration between Ankama and Studio 4°C.
Ankama is a French entertainment company based in Roubaix and creators of Dofus and Wakfu. Studio 4°C is a leading Japanese animation studio behind hits like Tekkonkinkreet, Genius Party and Mind Game.
Changing the name from Mutafukaz to something that cinemas in Ireland would be prepared to film isn’t the only task at hand. There are the non-trivial issues of translation and distribution. Manga’s marketing manager Andrew Hewson told press;
We’re working closely with multiple distributors to roll out a synchronised cinematic release across English speaking territories,” “It’s an amazingly creative and compelling project – a true mash-up of genres, influences and styles. We are really excited for audiences to see it!”
Created by French comic artist Guillaume “Run” Renard and Studio 4°C MFKZ is a dark and gritty mashup. There’s a mix of anime, gang culture, Lucha Libre, sci-fi and noir in the animation.
In MFKZ we follow Angelino and his skull-and-flame pal Vinny who live in the Californian metropolis of Dark Meat City. After a scooter accident, Angelino starts to get migraines and strange hallucinations. That’s when the rage-induced superpowers begin to manifest.
