Lex Arcana is a popular Italian RPG which is due a significant upgrade, English translation and looks very promising. Geek Native reviewed the free Quickstart here and liked it. There’s preview of the game’s fantastic looking over here and if you’re just keen to get to the Kickstarter then jump in.
There are time sensitive early bird offers. At the time of writing, you have 63 hours to get the “Early Eagle” tier for €90 (about £80). That’ll get you the core rules in PDF and hardcover, a softcover of the quickstarter, the Lex Arcana Empire map in print and PDF, Demiurge Screen, Demiurge Deck, 5 pre-genned character sheets and all the stretch goals.
If you miss that “Early Eagle” then you’ll need to find 10 Euros more.
If you just want the PDF then you only need to find €18. That’s enough for the corebook in PDF and all the stretch goals that come in PDF.
In Lex Arcana characters are elite warriors of a supernatural Roman Empire. Perhaps more importantly than just being warriors; the PCs are those who go out and investigate the unknown and the unnatural. Soldiers are expected to follow orders, in Lex Arcana, as members of the Cohors Auxiliaria Arcana, you’re expected think for yourself.
This is an alternative history game meets fantasy. Rome did not fall in this world because the gift of Divinity allowed the Caesars to steer a better course. That’s not to say the imperial legions don’t clash with wild hordes in battle. It just means there are monsters to deal with as well.
Lex Arcana is a historical RPG in its own right; especially in Italy but I think it’s fair to say it might be less well known in the States. I suspect this Kickstarter will change things. It’s also worth noting that Vampire: The Masquerade creator Mark Rein-Hagen will contribute an adventure for the game called “The Sons of Caligula” once the €45,000 total is hit.
The campaign has been live less than a day and has just edged past the €40,000 pledge mark. They can’t keep the stretch goals updates coming fast enough.
