The 25th episode of the Darth Vader comic book series is a big one. This is canon and in it Disney reveal who Darth Vader’s father is.
Anakin Skywalker was believed to be The Chosen One. It was thought that his birth was created by the Force/midichlorians in Shmi Skywalker Lars’ womb.
As Joshua DeLung points out this reveal changes everything… and yet some of us won’t be terribly surprised. Anakin was never the Chosen One. His creation was forced by Darth Sidious.
So who is Vader’s father? Darth Sidious is, the Emperor Palpatine, the Supreme Chancellor.
The quote the Star Wars Wiki has around Darth Plagueis, the Emperor’s mentor, fits well.
“Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith so powerful and so wise, he could use the Force to influence the midi-chlorians to create life. He had such a knowledge of the dark side, he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying.”
