Popular YouTube RPG star Matt Colville raised $2,121,465 on Kickstarter to fund the 5e supplement Strongholds and Followers as well as pay for a studio to live stream his new game.
Matt Colville has over 250,000 followers on YouTube but his next game will be on Twitch. The question is: when will it be on?. Critical Role streams on Thursday and his Colville’s new game was also on Thursday then they would clash.
In today’s Twitch stream, which was about worldbuilding and working out the demographics of Capital he answered some general questions about future plans.
He attracted a real-time audience of well over 1,000 viewers, and at the 4 hours 5m 30-second mark he confirmed his campaign would air on either Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday. It would likely start this month too.
Why not on Thursday? It’s because some of his players watch Critical Role and he wouldn’t want to make them pick between campaigns.
A little later on (4 hours 6-minutes, 20 seconds or so) he pushes back against the suggestion that it would be a ‘stupid business move’ to stream on Thursday. Why? According to Twitch’s stats on what channels Coville’s audience watches the vast majority only watch him.
He plans to channel the YouTube community he’s build up over Twitch to watch the live campaign. However, the show will be uploaded to YouTube after the session wraps.
You can watch the recap of the 4-hour stream at his Twitch archive.
