This year’s Free RPG Day is June 15th. Each year a bunch of RPG publishers get together to provide free goodies for gamers who turn up at local stores. The point of the day is to support local retailers while making it easy for gamers to either try something new or recruit new people into the hobby.
This year R. Talsorian Games, Mike Pondsmiths’ company, are taking part as a gold sponsor.
Geek Native described The Witcher tabletop RPG as a simulationist game in the dark and deadly review, noting how that was precisely what some gamers wanted these days. That’s not the case for every gamer, though, and it makes it especially hard to pick up the game at an event like Free RPG Day as you might not have a mentor around, familiar with the rules, to explain things to you.
R. Talsorian Games have solved this problem with a masterstroke. For Free RPG Day, the gold sponsor will give every participating retailer ten copies of ‘The Witcher Roleplaying Game: Easy Mode’ to giveaway.
The Witcher Roleplaying Game: Easy Mode
The Easy Mode is a 24-page booklet that acts as an introduction to The Witcher’s Interlock system, providing a simplified version of the mechanics. The booklet also contains pre-generated characters and an adventure.
If you know you’ll be unable to get to a bricks and mortar RPG store for Free RPG Day, then you have another chance to grab your free copy of The Witcher Easy Mode. R. Talsorian Games have indicated that they’ll make the booklet available from their DriveThruRPG store round about the same time.
