Matthew McFarland will close Growling Door Games. In a brief blog post the company said;
It is with great sadness that we announce that we are shutting down Growling Door Games, Inc. Matt will be addressing the specific reasons for the shutdown sometime soon.
Backers of Growling Door Games’ Undead Kickstarter have been reassured that that project will still be fulfilled. It looks like Undead will be the last offering to the RPG community from Matthew or his wife. The post signed off with;
We are not going to producing any further game products or books, nor are Michelle or Matt going to be freelancing for any game companies.
Matthew McFarland was a popular and prolific RPG designer, and DriveThruRPG currently has 150 products with his name attached, including Changeling, Mage, Vampire, Werewolf and a host of Onyx Path Publishing products.
Onyx Path has confirmed to Geek Native that McFarland is not currently working on any of their titles, nor has he worked with them for a while.
In recent days, following the community backlash against Zak S, there have been allegations made against Matthew McFarland.
On Monday, Cheyenne Grimes publicly named McFarland as their abuser.
Yesterday, author and game designer Holden Shearer shared on Twitter a Facebook thread from Onyx Path Publishing’s Luka Caroll that named McFarland. This thread is not publically visible on Caroll’s Facebook profile.
In a long thread on Twitter, Seth Harris highlights 2017 claims on RPG.net made by a woman who says McFarland was in an inappropriate relationship with her when she was 15.
Indie Press Revolution have already moved to ban Growling Door Games and all future games from the McFarlands from their site.
