Cubicle 7 are working on an Age of Sigmar RPG with Games Workshop. This week they showed off the cover artwork from Johan Grenier.
In a blog post from Warhammer Age of Sigmar producer Emmet Byrne we’re given a tour of the action and in the process, an introduction to some of the archetypes the RPG will use.
Archetypes in the Age of Sigmar roleplaying game define who your character is at the start of the game. They’re a job, military position or something like that along with your species and stats.
Byrne’s thoughtful enough to confirm that you don’t need to use archetypes to create your Age of Sigmar characters. There’s a free-form alternative which also opens up possibilities from outside the Forces of Order.
On the front cover, we can see some of the archetypes doing battle against the forces of Chaos and the undead horrors of the Lord of Death, Nagash. We have a Knight-Quester of the Stormcast Eternals, an Excelsior Warpriest, an Isharann Tidecaster of the Idoneth Deepkin, an Endrinrigger of the Kharadron Overlords and the huge Kurnoth Hunter of the Sylvaneth. Which is which? They don’t say and that will take someone with a better knowledge of the Age of Sigmar than this blogger.
Since Cubicle 7 introduce the concept of Age of Sigmar archetypes to explain the front cover they take the time to confirm those that will be in the game.

Age of Sigmar
The Age of Sigmar is set after the Age of Chaos. Sigmar’s return forces Chaos back and gives light to a new era of Order. However, Nagash, the Undying King and Lord of Death is fighting back, now the dead stalk the lands and the Stormcast Eternals are struggling against the tide.
In the RPG, characters are part of the battle to save the Mortal Realms; they are a beacon of hope against the undying tide sent by Nagash and the forces of Chaos.
