Australian company Frew Games has a license to make a board game based on the comic book character The Phantom. As you might imagine they’ve taken the project, The Phantom: Treasure of Drakon, to Kickstarter.
It’s a slightly unusual video pitch for the campaign as it doesn’t talk about the game at all; instead, it talks about how Kickstarter works. I imagine this may because Frew Games believes a less Kickstarter-savvy audience may be more interested in the game. However, the campaign is progressing, and at the time of writing there are 22 days still to go, and AU$30,000 pledged for the $51,000 target. You can follow progress online.
There’s a video example of The Phantom: Treasure of Drakon being played at a conversion coming up. Let’s first take a look at the pledge levels.
It takes a pledge of AU$ 99 to get the board game and all stretch goals. You’ll have shipping to add on. Right now that looks to be about US$20 for the UK, the US and Canada.
There are much higher tiers available and the ‘original art pledge’ is limited and running out quickly. In this, you’ll get one piece of randomly assigned original artwork included in the game sent to you. That feels like a piece of art that could become quite available, but that tier also costs AU$349.
The game has 1 to 6 players as either The Phantom and allies or as the Red Dragon Pirates fighting to control the island Drakon.
Art for the project is being supplied by Phantom artists; Glenn Ford, Jamie Johnson, Paul Mason and Daniel Picciotto.

It’s worth noting that Frew is all about The Phantom. They run Phantom Comic.com.au where they sell comics and merch, sometimes rare ones.
