At the time of writing, there are still 30 days in the Kickstarter clock and while Lancer asks for a very ambitious $46,000 in funding it’s already made over $180,000. This post can’t even include the pitch video as there isn’t one! Lancer is doing something different and you can follow progress here.
What is it? It’s an RPG focused on the pilots of modular mechs in a futuristic world set long after the apocalypse.
If you want Lancer for free, right now, then it’s yours. Visit this page on Massif Press and you can download it straight away.
Gamers like what they see in Lancer because nearly 4,000 have stepped up to pledge cash despite the game being free.
So, why the Kickstarter at all? Lancer is huge. It’s at least 560 pages, and Massif want art and to go hardback. There’s almost 20 artists involved.
Shipping is an issue. When the Kickstarter launched shipping to the UK came in at nearly $80 and over $50 for Canada. It was enough to check that this wasn’t a mech mini-game. It isn’t. Massif swears they’re talking to people to try and get that cost down. If you pledge; you don’t have to worry about shipping just yet so let’s hope they succeed.
The PDF is cheaper and takes only a $25 pledge to secure a copy. The next step up is hardback which sets you back $60. Want something fancy? Sorry, no can do, unless you’re a retailer who wants 5 copies.
Tempted? I am. You can check out the details on the Kickstarter page.
