It is still possible to download the Odyssey of the Dragonlords: Player’s Guide for free from DrivethruRPG.
James Ohlen, Jesse Sky and Drew Karpyshyn are three Bioware veterans, and their D&D 5e campaign setting inspired by ancient Greece is called Thylea. You can back it in the Odyssey of the Dragonlords Kickstarter that is surging towards it’s US$50,000 funding goal. Watch the money counter tick up at the campaign page.
The quickstart Players Guide is free, and so the Kickstarter brings you an epic adventure book for the setting.
A pledge of $22 will get you PDFs of the player’s guide, adventure book, all the digital stretch goals and your name in the book. A pledge of US54 (about £31) gets you the hardcover adventure book, softcover player’s guide and all the PDFs. That tier is limited to the first 1,000. If you miss the opening deal, then the physical books will cost $6 more.
The adventure book will come in at about 280 pages, with maps and enough adventure to take characters from level 1 to 10. There’s also details of the world of Thylea, including history, factions, laws, gods, titans and the Dragonlords. There are 15 new monsters inspired by Greek mythology, new magic items and a host of NPCs.
The latter makes sense, right? This sourcebook has been put together by ex-Bioware game designers. I would imagine they’re tackling Odyssey of the Dragonlords as a story and that’s why it is presented as an adventure first (rather than a gazette) with interesting NPCs to meet along the way.
If you fancy a teaser of that story then NYT bestselling author and core team member Drew Karpyshyn has a short online called Dragonlord’s Wager.
What sort of games does this team tend to make? Past projects include Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2, Neverwinter Nights, Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect 1 and 2, Star Wars: The Old Republic and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
