The BBC have confirmed they will publish Doctor Who: The Adventure Games as a four part series on the website.
The first adventure can be downloaded for either the PC or Apple.
The games feature both the 11th Doctor and Amy Pond; players assume control of both during their adventures.
The team behind the Doctor Who: The Adventure Games series has pedigree. Steven Moffat, Piers Wenger, Beth Willis, Anwen Aspden and Charles Cecil are executive producers.
British based game designers, Sumo Digital, have developed the games.
Severance and Torchwood Children of Earth writer James Moran and Phil Ford, co-writer of Waters of Mars, wrote the scripts for the games.
Interestingly; the games were commissioned by BBC Online.
Matt Smith and Karen Gillan have provided the voices.
In a press release Steven Moffat, Head Writer and Executive Producer, Doctor Who, said;
“Children don’t just watch Doctor Who – they join in. They make up games, invent their monsters, create their own stories.
“Now, there’s something else – now they can be the Doctor in brand new episodes. Doctor Who: The Adventure Games will offer fans of the Doctor a unique opportunity to enter his world, face his challenges and grapple with his deadliest foes.
“By developing these games alongside the new TV series, we’ve been able to weave exciting narrative strands with the very finest game design to create a new kind of Doctor Who, which can be enjoyed by the whole family.”
It’s worth noting that Cubicle 7’s licensed product the Doctor Who: Adventures in Time and Space RPG is out already but not (likely) connected to these computer games.
