Sorry to say, that if you’ve just had an email from Zavvi to declare you the winner of their UEFA Champions League final that there have been complications.
Early indications suggest that they’ve sent the email to their entire customer base. You can read the pre-mail merge ‘winners announcement here‘.
A quick trip to Twitter is enough to reveal the extent of the mistake.
Do Zavvi have to honour this email?
It’s unlikely.
There may likely be a clause in the terms & conditions of the competition that will allow Zavvi to ‘disqualify’ winners as they see fit.
It is most likely Zavvi will inform customers of the mistake and tackle any challenges from disgruntled and disappointed people on a case by case basis.
Let’s see if the clever marketing team at The Hut, the company who owns Zavvi, can turn this into a PR win.
