The Unicorn Rescue Society is a series of books from Adam Gidwitz and published by Dutton Books for Young Readers. The card game, though, is being published by Gidwitz himself. Kickstarter allowing, that is.
At the time this blog post goes live, there are 14 days for the Unicorn Rescue Society: The Card Game to fund. They’ve raised more than $6,500 and are marching towards their goal of $10,000. You can follow the progress here.
A pledge of $19 will get you the game. If you’re in the continental US, then shipping is free; otherwise, it is not. THat’s the tier most backers have gone for.
Alternatively, the $34 pledge gets you the game and a URS book (of your choice) signed by Gidwitz. This is also a popular tier. $74 gets you all the books and game. Only retailers or schools can go higher as those tiers deliver extra copies of the game.
The Unicorn Rescue Society: The Card Game looks very simple. It’s for kids. The optional secret mission rules are a nice touch, something to add to the game once the children master the basics. And the monsters look very cute. That’s a Jersey Devil unlike I’ve ever seen illustrated before.
It’s very good to see authors trying to make money from their intellectual property.
