Cubicle 7 are about to publish the sourcebook for the Doctor Who RPG which will cover the 12th regeneration of the Doctor. They’ve done one for every Doctor so far and have now caught up with the TV series. That’s a commitment that fans will appreciate.
In news that will cause those same fans to perk up their ears: there’s a Doctor Who 2e RPG on the way, a revised edition.
The revelation came during Cubicle 7’s seminar at the UK Games Expo this weekend. Owner Dominic McDowall-Thomas and Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Soulbound RPG producer Emmet Byrne talked about Warhammer Fantasy RPG 4th edition, Soulbound, the Warhammer 40K RPG Wrath & Glory and the Lord of the Rings RPG The One Ring 2nd edition.
Fans in the audience asked about plans for Doctor Who, and McDowall-Thomas mentioned the revised edition.
The same seminar made it clear that Cubicle 7, although grown in employee numbers after the move to Ireland, was being careful about not taking on too much work. Equally, the games the company wanted to talk about were Lord of the Rings and Games Workshop’s Warhammer properties. It’s not clear just how many resources the publisher has on the new edition.
Backwards compatibility was a topic of conversion before this news. Cubicle 7 are working hard to stress gamers who bought the original Wrath & Glory from Ulisses Spiele that they will not need to throw out those core rules, anything Cubicle 7 produces will be compatible with it. Equally, the supplements currently available for The One Ring will be usable with the forthcoming second edition of The Lord of the Rings RPG.
Given this attention to backwards compatibility, Doctor Who RPG fans might well expect their collection of first edition sourcebooks will be entirely safe even with a revised edition in the works.
