Anthony and Joseph Russo are moving on from the Infinity War of The Avengers. Their next project will be an animated Magic: The Gathering series for Netflix.
Hasbro is helping. The owners of Wizards of the Coast have given their permission for the project and has Allspark Studios, which they own, working on the project.
There’s no name for the Magic: The Gathering animated series yet but Netflix has said it’ll follow the adventures of the Planeswalkers.
The teaser tweet from NX On Netflix shows Chandra Nalaar. She’s a familiar face for Magic The Gathering players, a fire user from the plane of Kaladesh, and absolutely a candidate for the show.
Deadline report that the showrunners and writers for the series will be Henry Gilroy (Star Wars Rebels) and Jose Molina (The Tick).
In the same article from Deadline is the news that Octopie Network and Bardel Studio will be doing the animation. Isaac Krauss, CEO of Octopie, is talking to the press;
Our goal is to not only tell a compelling story leveraging Magic: The Gathering’s incredible body of work, but to also push the medium and perception of storytelling through animation. This series will cross the genres of suspenseful thriller, horror, and drama with deeply developed characters the likes of which are not often seen in animation.”
