Your Name was a stunning and clever anime from Makoto Shinkai. It sets the bar high.
Nearly three million views for the directors next full-length anime very much suggests Makoto will meet that challenge.
English subtitles aren’t yet available.
In the anime, we follow a young man called Hodaka who moves to Tokyo. He’s left behind his island home and arrived in a busy city where it always raining, he’s broke, and he knows no one.
Hodaka gets a job writing for a strange occult magazine and, eventually, meets a young woman called Hina and her brother. The catch? Hina can control the weather.
I’m very much reminded of Makoto Shinkai’s Garden of Words because of the gorgeous rain animation on display in this trailer. It’s clearly an interest of the director.
Weathering With You is due for a cinema release in Japan mid-July this year. We’ll have to see whether or not it’s picked up by anyone in Europe or America, but it probably will be.
Are you looking forward to Weathering With You?
