Richard Knaak is a New York Times bestselling author who has written novels for Warcraft and Diablo. He also wrote The Legend of Huma: Heroes which was book 1 of the Dragonlance: Heroes series and Empire of Blood which is book three in Dragonlance’s The Minotaur Wars series.
Dragonlance may well be Knaak’s favourite as a scroll through Goodreads and review sites quickly confirms that most people compare his own Rex Draconis series to it.
Rex Draconis: Under the Dragon Moon, the first book, was published in January 2018.
Thanks to a successful Kickstarter, which raised over AU$5,000 from 117 backers, now we’ve a free to download RPG available on DriveThruRPG.
The Rex Draconis RPG is free to download, uses 5e but it’s not very long (34-pages) and acts to introduce the world of Tiberos. Later this week we’ll see three follow up books; Rising Rides – War of Tides adventure 1, Player’s Companion and Amble’s Guide to Avondale.
This free core set of rules include 3 new NPC stat blocks, 9 new monster stat blocks, 4 new magic items and makes liberal use of art by Luiz Prado.
Those monsters include a giant catfish, giant leech, giant tunnel grub (which is illustrated), lich hound and molten guardian (illustrated). There are also stats for Wheyr Alpha, Wheyr Brutes, Warrior and Scout. A Wheyr is drawn for us and looks a bit like a Gnoll but with some seriously spooky powers.
The RPG was written by Micah Watt and Phil Beckwith. You can download it for free here.
Have you read any of the Rex Draconis fantasy series? Is it a good Dragonlance replacement?
