I have a conflict of interest. I don’t work in TV advertising. I work in digital marketing. The company that is responsible for the latest Call of Duty ad decided some old bloke sitting on a rotting chair telling me all the ways people “are doing it” would inspire me to buy the Modern Warefare 2 Stimulus Map Pack.
They’re so very wrong. This only puts me even further off the game.
In 2009 Activision-Blizzard appointed the Omnicom agency TBWA/Chiat/Day to handle the marketing for Call of Duty: Modern Warefare 2. AdAge had quotes about “the biggest entertainment launch of all time” but that doesn’t mean TBWA is behind the grumpy old many Stimulus Pack ads. It’s likely, though.
There’s another version of the ad too. One that’s (claimed to be) too rude/raunchy for TV. It’s also equally as likely it was produced in a hope it would go viral. I mean; the production costs for this style of ad aren’t high!
