Boom! Studios are on a roll! Yesterday, we had news of their Buffy & Angel crossover which is happening only a few episodes into the new series after they scooped the license from Dark Horse. Today they’re announced Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.
The Age of Resistance is the name of the forthcoming Netflix prequel to the classic Jim Henson puppet movie.
The new comic book series is planned for a 12-issue run and is written by Nicole Andelfinger (Adventure Time) and drawn by Matis Basla (Sparrowhawk). It’ll introduce previously unknown histories of key characters from the show and will tie in tightly to Jeffrey Addis and Will Matthews’s Netflix show.
It’s a prequel to the prequel.
We start in Thra, before the Age of Resistance, war and chaos reign over the Gelfllings. War is for survival and evil is on the march. There’s one item that could save the people, though…
Nicole Andelfinger told press;
There’s something extraordinarily universal about the theme of good vs. evil that seems to speak to so many people from so many walks of life. It’s why I think The Dark Crystal has such a strong legacy, even to this day!”
When I was offered the chance to play in that sandbox, exploring the facets of that conflict through some pivotal AGE OF RESISTANCE characters, well, I couldn’t say no! With Matias Basla’s beautiful art, I’m sure you’ll come to love and adore these new additions to the world just as we have.”
The comic books will be in stores by September 25.
Are you a Dark Crystal fan? What do you make of the sudden flux of news? Joyous or are we in danger of strip-mining this nostalgic classic?
