It’s the last 24 hours of a generous 50% off most Aspen Comics sale at DriveThruComics.
Essentially, if the comic has been out for at least a week or so then it’s probably 50% off.
I hadn’t really heard of Aspen before. I’d heard of Fathom. That’s the comic created by Michael Turner, Aspen’s founder and that was it. However, it took just a bit of research in preparation for this article and the potential for Aspen surprised me.
Aspen Comics was founded in 2003. The name comes from the main character in Fathom. The in March 2018 a company called Mythos Studios bought 50% of Aspen.
I’m not sure Mythos Studios existed before that deal. So who are Mythos? There are two big names behind the project; David Maisel and Scooter Braun.
David Maisel is the former chairman of Marvel Studios. Scooter Braun leads SB Projects, and that’s a company who looks after the interests of A-list celebs. People like Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber are managed by Scooter Braun’s company.
Here’s what Braun said about Mythos and the deal to acquire 50% of Aspen;
David’s experience of building some of the greatest franchises in film history during his tenure as founding chairman at Marvel Studios is invaluable, and I am excited to be partnering with him on his new venture.”
In other words, Aspen is the central piece is a project by some powerful comic book and movie makers to produce some movies based on comic book titles.
