Rich Rogers’ low-level superhero Kickstarter didn’t make my radar in time for Superhero Week but it certainly looks good enough to spend some time on.
150+ backers agree, helping Lost Highway Games’ project smash through the $1,000 funding goal. You can follow progress on their campaign page.
If you’re able to watch the pitch video, you’ll see the Netflix-Marvel inspiration clearly. This is an RPG for superheroes pitched at that Daredevil, Luke Cage and The Punisher level but also Black Lightening and the web novel Worm.
A pledge of $9 is enough for access to the no art beta and then, when it’s ready, the final PDF from DriveThruRPG complete with art. The final retail cost will be higher than $9, so this is a discounted purchase. Standard cautions about using Kickstarter as a retail experience apply.
At $20, you get the digital and dead tree version of the game. I think that’s good value. You can go higher if you want and get access to perks like personal illustrations.
It’s worth noting that the art in the campaign page doesn’t fit the style of the pitch video. It’s a simpler, bolder illustration style, more comic book-like than real. That’s my main note of caution on what looks like a good niche at an attractive price point.
The character above is ‘Skeletal’ a Major Threat and a Monstrous foe from Hit the Streets.
What do you think? Tempted by the pitch and ready for some street-level super action? Or are you already skipping past hero content?
