Geek Native cannot cover the myriad of sales publishers offer on DriveThruRPG and other booksellers. It would have to be someone’s full-time job, funded by a lotto win.
Fat Goblin’s emergency sale is different for two reasons.
The first is that this sale is driven by humanitarian and urgent reasons. The email announcement was short and straightforward.
Hey folks. With my wife’s ongoing health issues and the threat of a hurricane heading our way, all stock art has been dropped to a $1. If you need it, grab it, as we could really use the support.
If that’s enough for you, then you can check out Fat Goblin Games’ DTRPG page.
The season reason is that Fat Goblin Games is the winner of Geek Native’s patrons voting on the Publisher Spotlight.
Ideally, Geek Native gets to chat with the publisher to write up the spotlight piece. That was a success with Raging Swan Press, the second winner of the spotlight, but wasn’t achieved with Rite Publishing and yet that didn’t stop the spotlight column coming out.
Fat Goblin Games Artwork
The emergency sale is for artwork. The usual audience for stock art on DriveThruRPG is other indie developers looking for illustrations, with the right license, to include in their games. Zine editors, the occasional blogger and vlogger too.
Fat Goblin’s reach is a little longer than that, though. They sell art suitable for the virtual tabletop Fantasy Grounds. For example, Publisher’s Choice – Fantasy Backgrounds does what you would expect. There are four pages of 600dpi images suitable for backgrounds in Fantasy Grounds and covered by the usual artwork license.
RPG Publisher Spotlight
We’ve not pre-announced the RPG Publisher Spotlight winner before, but this circumstance is a bit different. Time will tell whether we manage an interview. Watch this space.
