WizKid’s Flotilla is now in stores. It’s a large game, with hundreds of pieces and a recommended retail price of about $80.
The game is something of a cautionary tale and set in an alternative Earth. In this world, the Bikini Atoll nuclear tests ruptured the planet down to the mantle.
Humanity scrambled to the sea to survive, and now all that’s left is a multinational flotilla.
The gameplay is made interesting by having two distinct and yet option phases. You begin as a “sinksider”, using your resources to drag salvage from the ocean, finding resources for all that’s left of civilisation.
If you want, and when you’re ready, you can become a “skysider” and turn your efforts into expanding the size of the flotilla, research, technology and managing the population.
Depending on what you do, and what other players do, the roles of the game will impact strategy.
No matter which role you pick, or end up in, you’ll have to manage relationships with the Guilds that manage the flotilla.
