The Steel Prince: Night of Knives is a story from the universe of the Shades of Magic. It follows Prince Maxim Maresh, before he became the king of Red London.

The story picks up after the defeat of the Pirate Queen of the Blood Coast and as Maxim is trying to turn the royal guard of Verose into an actual unit. He wants soldiers that are worthy of honour.

There are some in the royal guard who are less than keen. They see a spoiled prince who has come to meddle.

The Night of Knives is a mysterious set of trials that will prove the bravery of anyone who survives them. Is this the way Maxim can prove himself to the royal guard? That’s the route he takes.
