There’s a community called Dear Reddit, Today, I Fucked Up in which members share how badly they messed up. Perhaps it is cathartic.
One user, presumably not much of a D&D player, admitted to unknowingly applying to College as a fictional race.
How did that happen? The user, /u/stplkinatmswn is part Native American and decided to note this in their college application form. The College, though, wants to know which tribe and so stplkinatmswn answered Yaun-Ti.
Yuan-Ti are snakemen from Dungeons & Dragons. It’s actually known, in the game, for especially human-seeming Yuan-Ti to try and live in human settlements as spies.
The thing is, stplkinatmswn wasn’t lying. They thought that they were Yuan-Ti. Their parents had always told them that their tribal heritage was Yuan-Ti. In fact, stplkinatmswn went through school bragging about being Yuan-Ti and therefore, close to nature.
Whoops.
