Dark Sun was an official campaign setting for the 2nd edition of AD&D and the 4th edition of D&D. It’s set in the post-apocalyptic world of Athas, which is a desert wasteland brought to ruin by magic.
There are no gods. Resources are rare, but psionics are common. Dark Sun was the first official D&D setting to be wrapped up in a plot.
There are often rumours as to whether Dark Sun will be the next official D&D 5e setting but, for now, we have fan adaptions to use.
Over at GMBinder, Dark Sun Campaign Guide Rules Book for Players on Athas by MCP is looking good. It’s 57 pages long with brief rules of character creation, races, classes, Dark Sun rules and equipment.
There are other Dark Sun fan projects available at GMBinder, but this particular one seems to have developed the most. The only reference to the creator is on the adaption’s front cover as GM Binder’s author tag isn’t used. However, the summary of the project describes it as;
Homebrew Dark Sun guide utilizing material from various homebrew web content, AD&D, 3rd edition, 4th edition, and my own 20+ years of DMing.
MCP’s work has re-created the Psion class and, as it happens, two months ago Wizards of the Coast opened up their Psionics and Psychic playtest for D&D.
Classes like Dune Traders, introduced by the Dune Trader sourcebook are yet to be converted though.
Are there any Dark Sun conversions or projects that you recommend?
