Kobold Press’ second Tome of Beasts is doing very well on Kickstarter as D&D 5e Dungeon Masters look for illustrated monsters with trusted stat blocks their players haven’t already encountered.
At the time of writing, there are 19 days to go, nearly 3,500 backers and over $230,000 collected. You can see the details on the campaign page.
There will be 400 new monsters in the book with a diverse range of style and challenge level. Kobold Press doesn’t list them all but the pitch video names a few and shows off the accompanying stunning illustrations.
A pledge of $15 is enough for the Tome of Beasts II PDF whereas it takes $22 for the softcover and $50 for the hardcover. Kobold introduces perks along the way, though, such as copies of the Lairs PDF and the ability to submit a monster idea.
You can go much higher. $495 will get you the hardbound leather ultimate edition, another hardcover, a pawn set, the PDF, the lairs PDF and in softcover and either a Roll20 or Fantasy Grounds license.
Many stretch goals have unlocked. That adds another 46 monsters, six of which are Kobold designed, the other 40 monster submissions as well as the Imperial Dragon, Demon Lord, Arch Devil, Fey Captain, Fey Lady, 2 extra encounters and 3 familiars.
There are still stretch goals still to go, but both are in sight; $240k for three monsters with a challenge rating less than 1 and $260k to boost the backer monsters to 45.
