If you have an excellent idea for a Zweihander Grim & Perilous actual play and are a Twitch Partner, then the publisher and designer Daniel D. Fox want to hear from you. They’re making investments.
Geek Native spoke to Fox in the wake of the Roll20 market share report which saw D&D grow in popularity from Q3 to Q4. Zweihander’s creator was quick to call out the link between the top RPGs and actual play.
Andrews McMeel Publishing is already on course to capitalise on the influencer trend. Fox told us;
Actual Play (AP) is a key driver for awareness-building with new RPGs, both online and offline. Zweihander RPG through Andrews McMeel Publishing is making major investments in sponsored AP for 2020/2021. This dovetails into our Organised Play program we’re launching at Gen Con in 2020.
There’s a good example already. Roll20’s GM-in-Residence, Adam Koebel, is currently streaming EAT THE RICH, a Zweihander actual play.

The choice of influencer and platform is not a fluke. Andrew McMeel has picked Roll20 as their platform of choice. Fox explained;
Zweihander RPG has the rare accolade of being a Roll20 Spotlight game, chosen by Roll20 staff. We are making investments for product development to make Roll20 the destination for online play with Zweihander RPG and other games Powered By Zweihander d100 game engine. Our first step is to build out Zweihander RPG: Player’s Handbook for Roll20 (eta Q1 2020), which will be complete free to play on Roll20. We are also revamping our Character Sheet to have D&D Charactermancer-like functionality in Q2 2020.
Offline play has not been forgotten about either. During EAT THE RICH, Adam Koebel shared a discount code from Amazon (US only) that reduces the cost of Zweihander: Player’s Handbook to just $30.

We can expect more involvement from the Zweihander team with popular streamers. Fox explained that they weren’t finished;
Andrews McMeel continues to invest in sponsored AP. For Q1/Q2 2020, we are working with Adam Koebel on his program entitled EAT THE RICH. For the entirety of 2020, we are working with Encounter Roleplay. We also have other exciting Actual Plays in the works, to be announced in summer 2020.
Zweihander has its own Twitch Channel and streaming schedule. QUEEN OF EMBERS, run by Grim & Perilous, airs on Wednesday and Thursdays as the key program.
This month Wizards of the Coast announced the Greenlight Fund, which puts $1,000,000 on the table for streamers in their Creator Program. The fund, though, isn’t for Dungeons & Dragons but for the online version of Magic: The Gathering.
