Redditor Plain_Squiffy shared their 3D mapping project to DnDIY.
The goal was to create battle maps that balanced speed, cost and quality. As you know, it’s possible to spend a small fortune on 3D dungeon terrain and another small fortune on paint and the kit to bring that terrain to life.
While gorgeously painted 3D models look amazing, they’re not quick. DMs and wargamers can spend hundreds of hours just decorating their collection.
Plain_Squiffy spent countless hours on this project, but the result is a set of 3D terrain and mats than can now be made quickly, relatively cheaply and it looks incredible.
The black and white effect keeps the visuals striking but straightforward. These tiles aren’t lacking detail, there are dozens of lines and dots for decoration, and the grid is easily visible. I think the result is a style that will make the players’ miniatures, paper or plastic, stand out on the table while providing a stunning backdrop for them.
