In recent weeks, it seems Asmodee’s Fantasy Flight Games has been the centre of all the news, with Fantasy Flight Interactive closing along with the roleplaying games department.
Yesterday, Asmodee owned Plaid Hat Games had big news. They’re no longer Asmodee owned.
Founder Colby Dauch has repurchased the tabletop games publisher. The catch? Some games will remain with Asmodee and be moved to Fantasy Flight or Z-Man Games’ ownership. Asmodee also gets to keep the rights to the Adventure Book Games brand.
Dead of Winter and Raxxon will now be published by Fantasy Flight while Mice and Mystics, Stuffed Fables, Aftermath and Battlelands by Z-Man Games.
Plaid Hat Games was founded in 2009, and Asmodee bought them in 2015 along with Z-Man Games.
Colby Dauch, Founder of Plaid Hat Games, commented:
These past years within the Asmodee Group have been amazing and I am excited to continue to lead Plaid Hat Games into the future. I am thankful to the many kind and creative people I’ve had the opportunity to work with at Asmodee and look forward to continuing our relationships with Asmodee’s distribution units throughout the world.”
Dauch’s bio on the about us section of Plaid Hat is an interesting one. It reads;
Colby Dauch is a one-hit-wonder with an inferiority complex. He designed Summoner Wars in 2009 and, after being rejected by reputable publishing companies, started Plaid Hat Games to publish his design. Colby reinvested the money made from Summoner Wars into the games and contributions of people he believed in and year by year Plaid Hat Games has grown. Colby now finds himself in the newly formed position of Plaid Hat Games Studio Manager. ARE YOU PROUD OF ME NOW DAD?!
