Last year, Free RPG Day got new owners after Aldo Ghiozzi sold it to Gaming Days. Gaming Days LLC is a company put together by ex-Cubicle 7 Paul Alexander Butler and retailers Travis Severance and Steve Ellis.
There’s now a lovely new Free RPG Day website.
Free RPG Day is on the 25h July 2020 and held in gaming stores across the world.
Free RPG Day partners
The pitch and purpose of Free RPG Day remains unchanged. Publishers give freebies to the organisation to be distributed to hundreds of gaming stores across the world.
Gamers, in search of freebies, turn up at these local stores and discover games they wouldn’t have otherwise have found.
Retailers get people walking in through their doors and publishers get to say, “Here, try this sample… we’re confident you’ll like it enough to buy the full game”.
The partners are;
- Goodman Games
- Green Ronin Publishing
- Modiphius Entertainment
- Roll20
- Paizo Publishing
- Pelgrane Press
- Q-Workshop
- WizKids
- Steve Jackson Games
- 9th Level Games
- Mantic Games
- Fantasy Flight Publishing
- Cubicle 7
- Renegade Game Studio
- Magpie Games
- Dave Taylor Miniatures
In previous years, partners have been put into tiers. The top tiers contribute more freebies per box and receive more promotion in exchange.
There is a “To be announced” on the Free RPG Day website under publisher, and it may be the tier that this refers to.
Update (28th May 2020): This article has been updated to show the new, post-COVID-19, date for Free RPG Day. An article describing the move was published today.
