Gary Con is a tabletop gaming convention set up to celebrate Gary Gygax the co-creator of Dungeons & Dragons. Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, Gary Con XII, which was due to be held in March in Lake Geneva, has been cancelled.
In a long post, Luke Gygax explains why he and the organisers had come to this discussion.
There is a public health emergency in Wisconsin and that comes first.
Virtual Gary Con, though, enters its second year and will carry on. Every single virtual player and GM will get a virtual swag pack worth more than $60 thanks to generous sponsors. You can sign up to be a player here.
The Grand Geneva Resort looks to be a good ally for the convention, and it’s a hard time to be in travel and events with much of the world reacting to Covid-19 with lockdowns and banning groups of people. The Resort is going to release all bookings without a cancellation fee.
In fact, that’s already happened, so if you want to go to Lake Geneva despite the lack of the Con and thought you had booked – you’ll have to contact the hotel and rebook!
Special guests who had been due attend this year include Jason Azevedo of RealmSmith, Chris Arneson, Steve Jackson, Doug Kovacs, Mike Mearls, Matt Lillard, Satine Phoenix, Mike Pondsmith, Stefan Pokorny, Jolly Blackburn of Knights of the Dinner Table, the illustrator Jeff Butler, Stephen Chenault of Troll Lord Games, Tom DeSanto, Darlene the Artist, Larry Elmore, Alyssa Faden and many more including a whole group from the Gygax family.
