Purgatory House is a “pick-up and play” haunted house RPG from Robert A Turk.
You don’t need to prep to run it, character creation is fast, and all you need to play are two decks of playing cards, paper, pens and something to act as tokens. The game suggests having friends who enjoying being spooked is helpful too.
Purgatory House is usually $9.99, but until the end of April, Turk has made it a Pay What You Want offer.
The intent is two-fold; firstly to encourage people to practice social distancing and support those people who are infected with Covid-19 and are self-isolating, and secondly to help Turk offset the impact of event cancellations.
You could pay $0.00 for this haunted house, but the game designer hopes enough gamers will pay something for it.
If you do grab a copy, then you’ll get your hands on 47 pre-genned characters and 8 different starting scenarios. The House is different on each playthrough, so this download isn’t a one-time distraction, you can return, if you dare, and try again.
Frankly, a standalone horror RPG about enduring a haunted house feels like a perfectly apt response to the current global crisis.
