Osprey Publishing’s arrival in the roleplaying games market has been noteworthy. We’ve had games like Romance of the Perilous Land and Paleomythic.
Game designer Jonathan Hicks has announced their first RPG Those Dark Places will be with Osprey. A full announcement from Osprey is expected later.
Hicks explains that Those Dark Places RPG will be a rules-light and story-focused tabletop game. It explores the dark side of space and those brave people who travel in claustrophobic ships, in dangerous conditions and to stations that aren’t clean and lovely but potential death traps.
The game will use a single D6 for its mechanic. The rules engine is Hicks’ One Dice Determines Success system, but it’s expected Those Dark Places won’t reference it as such.
Hicks hopes that the game will be intense, but fun. Combat will be brutal and the style in line with those thrillers of industrial science fiction.
Character creation, says Hicks, can be done in 5 minutes.
You can pre-order the game at Osprey’s parent, Bloomsbury.
