Matt Corley, the co-author of Whispers in the Dark a game that transforms D&D’s 5e rules into something appropriate for Lovecraft, has a new Kickstarter and it’s a 2-for1.
The Devil’s City: Horror Fiction & 5e Gaming Conjoined is a project to fund the full-length RPG campaign sourcebook Horror in the Windy City which expands on Whispers in the Dark. It’s also a campaign to fund The Devil’s City novella, a limited edition hardcover novella written by Bram Stoker award-winner Sara Tantlinger and Corley.
The Kickstarter is asking for US$12,000 to fund, but it already has over $,6000 in the tank with two weeks to go. You can follow progress at the campaign page.
The Devil’s City novella catches up with H. H. Holmes, the man responsible for the ‘murder castle’ and who was America’s first (known) serial killer.
The campaign setting, Horror in the Windy City, follows on from the book although both can stand alone.
Also, the 180+ page illustrated setting offers a new alignment system to D&D’s 5e. That will likely perk some ears up. There are new rules, backgrounds and NPCs enough to bring Chicago of 1893 to life.
A pledge of $3 will get you a digital copy of the novella, $5 gets you the Whispers in the Dark RPG quickstart, and $12 gets you the full edition of the RPG and a print-at-cost voucher.
If you want the new campaign expansion in PDF, then that’s $16 or $23 for a print-at-cost voucher as well as the PDF.
As there are two books, previous products and digital or physical copy options, there’s plenty of options to pick from. However, the international (meaning; not the US) friendly option for the full Whispers catalogue in PDF and Print on Demand is a pledge of $55.
