Samjoko Publishing was first recommended to me on the strength of their superhero RPG Worlds in Peril. That game used Apocalypse World as a system but Galaxies in Peril will use Forged in the Dark, that’s the Blades in the Dark system.
A total of CA$6,000 was asked to fund this campaign, and today, with just a week left, there is nearly $30,000 pledged. You can see the current total at the campaign page.
Samjoko are aiming to make a lush hardcover that is graphic novel-sized (6.625×10.25″). However, a pledge of CA$10 (about £6) is all that 50 people facing financial hardship had to pay for a digital copy.
Pleasing to see that most digital backers went for the $30 for the PDF and stretch goals.
The hardcover of Galaxies in Peril starts at CA$79 (about £46 or US$54). At that tier, you get the PDF as well as both physical and digital stretch goals.
Galaxies in Peril is about new superheroes testing the limits; of themselves and of their powers. There’s also that balance between raising the planet and having a personal life.
As it’s a Forged in the Dark game, your superhero team will be based around how you want to engage with the story, and individual heroes will be built from archetypes.
If you don’t know the system, then there’s an entirely free set of rules in the SRD for you to check out. You won’t need to buy any core rules, though, as Galaxies in Peril will have everything.
The Kickstarter pitch includes a flick through of Worlds in Peril as a showcase of what the indie studio is capable of doing in terms of production value.
